When it comes to gym etiquette, there are things you can do to be a good gym citizen. They are simply a means to keep both you, and other gym goers safe. Gym etiquette isn’t as much about watching your p’s and q’s as it is about being courteous to your fellow health buddies.
Following a few sensible rules will ensure the most productive and least annoying environment for everyone around you.
Proper gym etiquette consists of stated or unspoken rules
-
Don’t sing your music out loud. As much as you love to sing your music, it will distract others who may not appreciate your taste in music
-
Wear appropriate workout attire. Wear clothing that provides appropriate coverage that allows you to move with confidence and ease.
-
If you’re sick, stay home. If you are battling a cold, you should opt for an at-home workout.
-
Don’t drop the weights
-
Don’t stay on cardio equipment more than 30 minutes. Cardio machine time limits are put in place for a reason.
-
Ask if you can join in sets with someone rather than just jumping in.
-
Wipe down the equipment before and after you use it. It takes very little time to clean up and can be part of a cool down to any routine.
-
Turn off the cell phone. It distracts others from their training.
-
Put back what you use.
-
Ask if the person is still using a piece of equipment before taking over.
-
Don’t scatter your bags and personal belongings all over the place.
Gym etiquette is showing respect for the equipment, others, and yourself.
